GitHub

When you connect a GitHub organization to Oblique, Oblique will automatically sync the organization’s members and teams. As you make changes in GitHub, these are automatically synced to Oblique.

You can add multiple GitHub integrations to Oblique, to connect to multiple GitHub organizations. These are distinguished by their organization name.

Oblique integrates with GitHub:

  • As a source for accounts
  • As a source for resources

From your GitHub organization, Oblique syncs:

  • Members of the GitHub organization, as Oblique accounts
  • Teams in the GitHub organization, as Oblique resources
  • Team membership, as Oblique entitlements

GitHub accounts are automatically matched to Oblique users based on email.

  • GitHub teams

GitHub teams inherit members from their child teams, so a member of a child team also holds an entitlement to the parent team’s resource. This matches the membership GitHub reports for the parent team.

The Oblique GitHub App requests the following permissions:

  • Read access to members and organization administration
You must be an admin to add an integration.

Oblique connects to GitHub through the Oblique GitHub App, which you install on your GitHub organization. You must be an organization owner or GitHub App manager for your GitHub organization in order to install the GitHub App.

To add a GitHub integration, navigate to the Integrations page:

  1. Select Add integration.
  2. Select GitHub.
  3. Under GitHub App, select Connect GitHub. This opens GitHub in a new window.
  4. Select the organization for which you wish to install the GitHub App.
  5. Confirm the organization is the one you want to sync, review the permissions Oblique requests, and select Install & Authorize.
  6. If GitHub asks you to Confirm access, reauthenticate to GitHub with your passkey, security key, or authenticator app.

You will be returned to the integration detail page, and Oblique will immediately start syncing organization members and teams.

The Oblique GitHub integration is currently read-only, so cannot be used to manage your GitHub organization’s members, teams, or team members.

You don’t need to do anything to sync the GitHub integration. Oblique will automatically and continuously sync changes from GitHub.

You must be an admin to remove an integration.

To remove a GitHub integration, from the integration’s detail page:

  1. Navigate to the Settings tab.
  2. At the bottom of the page, under Delete integration, select Delete integration….
  3. In the confirmation dialog, type the text to confirm, then select Delete integration.

This will immediately stop all syncing and remove all resources from the integration. Oblique also uninstalls the Oblique GitHub App from your organization.
