Request access

When you need access in Oblique, you make a request. You can request a role for yourself, for a group or team you belong to, or for someone else.

All access changes in Oblique go through a request, which describes the change you want to make. A request has a set of checks that must pass before it is applied. By default, a request for a role on a resource needs approval from an Oblique admin.

Once a request is approved, Oblique applies the request automatically. You can disable auto-apply when you create a request, in which case you’ll need to apply the request manually after the checks pass.

You can browse resources on the Access page. This also shows you which resources you already have access to, and with which roles.

To request a role on a resource, open the resource detail page:

  1. Select Request access.
  2. Under Role, select the role you’re requesting access for.
  3. Under Subjects, select who should be granted access: yourself, a group or team you belong to, or another user. You can select multiple subjects, and search by name. A user is granted access through their account in the resource’s integration, so a user with no account there can’t be selected.
  4. (Optional) Under Expiration, select a duration after which Oblique will automatically revoke the access. The default is indefinite.
  5. Preview the impact of the change in the Affected users section.
  6. In the Approval section, review the checks for this request. Each check has a reviewer assigned automatically. Optionally, select the reviewer list to change them.
  7. Select Create request. To disable auto-apply, select Select and Create request + manually apply instead.

The request is sent to its reviewers. Once every check passes, Oblique applies the request and grants the access.

You can change when your access expires. To change the role itself, remove the current role and request a new one.

  1. On your profile page, under Access, locate the entitlement you want to edit.
  2. Select More and Request expiration change… to open a request form.
  3. Under New expiry, select the new expiration date or duration.
  4. In the Approval section, review the checks. Reviewers are assigned automatically; select Select reviewers to change them.
  5. Select Create request. To disable auto-apply, select Select and Create request + manually apply instead.
  1. On your profile page, under Access, locate the entitlement you want to revoke.
  2. Select More and Revoke… to open a request form.
  3. Review the impact in the Affected users section.
  4. In the Approval section, review the checks. Reviewers are assigned automatically; select Select reviewers to change them.
  5. Select Create request. To disable auto-apply, select Select and Create request + manually apply instead.

Once every check passes, Oblique applies the request and revokes the access.
