BambooHR

When you connect a BambooHR company to Oblique, Oblique will automatically sync BambooHR employees and employee fields to Oblique users and attributes, and BambooHR users to Oblique accounts.

As you make changes in BambooHR, such as hiring someone, changing their job, or ending their employment, these changes are automatically synced to Oblique.

You can add multiple BambooHR companies to Oblique. These function as separate integrations and are distinguished by their company domain.

Supported options

Oblique syncs the following from your BambooHR company.

Users

Oblique syncs each BambooHR employee as an Oblique user.

Oblique uses the following employee fields from BambooHR to identify users:

• employeeId
• displayName
• preferredName
• firstName
• lastName
• workEmail

An employee whose status is Inactive is still synced to Oblique, but soft deleted in Oblique. They are restored if their status becomes Active again.

An employee without a workEmail isn’t synced, unless Oblique has synced them before.

Attributes

Oblique syncs the following employee fields from BambooHR as user attributes:

• workPhone
• employeeNumber
• jobTitleName
• departmentName
• divisionName
• locationName
• employmentStatusName
• hireDate
• terminationDate
• reportsToId

Accounts

Oblique also syncs each BambooHR user as an Oblique account. Users who are disabled, whose status isn’t enabled, aren’t synced.

Tip

A BambooHR user is a login to BambooHR, and is separate from an employee record.

BambooHR accounts are matched to Oblique users by the BambooHR user’s employeeId. A BambooHR user without an employeeId, such as an administrator who isn’t an employee, is matched by email.

Resources

Oblique’s BambooHR integration is read-only. Oblique can’t make changes to your BambooHR company, its employees and their fields, or its users.

Oblique syncs the following from BambooHR as resources:

• The BambooHR company you connected

Every account has an entitlement for the company.

The BambooHR integration doesn’t read information about roles in BambooHR.

Required permissions

The BambooHR integration requests the following scopes for your BambooHR company:

The BambooHR integration only requests permissions it needs. Oblique cannot read information about compensation, payroll, demographics, dependents, hiring, or time off.

Note

Oblique connects to BambooHR and reads data with the permissions of the administrator who authorized the integration, including that administrator’s field-level permissions. If data you expect is missing, make sure to connect using an administrator who has sufficient access.

Add BambooHR integration

You must be an admin to add an integration.

You connect a BambooHR company to Oblique by signing in to BambooHR as an administrator and approving the access Oblique asks for. Since each BambooHR company has its own subdomain, you must give Oblique that information before you can install the BambooHR integration.

To add a BambooHR integration, navigate to the Integrations page:

1. Select Add integration.
2. Select BambooHR.
3. In BambooHR company domain, enter the text before .bamboohr.com in your company’s BambooHR URL. For example, for https://acme.bamboohr.com, enter acme.
4. Select Connect BambooHR.
5. Sign in as a BambooHR administrator and approve the access Oblique asks for.

Oblique will immediately start syncing employees and users.

Change BambooHR integration’s authorizations

You must be an admin to change an integration's authorizations.

To reconnect the BambooHR integration, including to change the administrator it is tied to, from the integration’s detail page:

1. Navigate to the Settings tab.
2. Under Connection, select Reconnect.
3. Sign in as a different BambooHR administrator and approve the access Oblique asks for.

Reconnecting keeps the integration on the same company domain. To sync a second BambooHR company, add another integration instead.

Manage entitlements

Oblique’s BambooHR integration is read-only, so it can’t be used to manage your BambooHR company, its employees and their fields, or its users. Make these changes in BambooHR directly, and Oblique will sync them automatically.

Remove BambooHR integration

You must be an admin to remove an integration.

To remove a BambooHR integration, from the integration’s detail page:

1. Navigate to the Settings tab.
2. At the bottom of the page, under Delete integration, select Delete integration….
3. In the confirmation dialog, type the text to confirm, then select Delete integration.

This will immediately stop all syncing and remove all resources from the integration.

Caution

Removing the integration doesn’t revoke Oblique’s access to BambooHR. To revoke it, remove Oblique from the apps connected to your BambooHR company.
